Add a Splash of Colors to Your Look This Season

By Nidhi Nangia

Fashion trends in jewelry are ushering in another excellent season for colored gemstone jewelry. Vivid colors and bold designs dominate the trend. Sapphire, emerald and pearl are currently the most popular gems for jewelry. Ruby and aquamarine are also important and all indications are that rich color will continue to dominate the holiday season. Amongst metals, white gold happens to be the hot trend.

Fashion jewelry blooms when bold designs are in vogue which is very much the trend this season. The bold and beautiful look is popular in necklaces, earrings, and bracelets with natural gemstones adorning the designs. Loose gemstones of lively colors matched with diamond accents are becoming the popular choice. The fashion conscious choose elegant gemstone jewelry to complement their costumes, some choose this according to their birthstones and some adore it for the sheer aesthetics.

While fine jewelry in bold designs and rich colors forge the way for leading fashion, there is still a niche for more traditional and classic looks. Gemstones in classic settings and vintage designs are also the hot fashion trend this season. Theme jewelry in pendants, earrings, and charm bracelets has an appeal that goes beyond fashion alone because it identifies with the wearer's personality. In addition, traditional designs, especially for bridal jewelry, have a classic look with timeless appeal.

This season, jewelry designs and colors are luxurious, feminine, and sensual. Fashion embraces a strong element of fantasy and escapism, making it the perfect time to have fun experimenting with a range of materials, colors and styles.

Suggestion for purchase -

With so spectacular a range to choose from, it becomes very difficult to go hunting for the perfect ring, pendant or bracelet to adorn your look. Internet comes to the rescue. Choose a website that offers a vivid range of colored gemstones and jewelry. Websites allow you to design your own jewelry allowing you to indulge you artistic expression and create a piece that is as unique and special as you are.

Hints On loose diamonds online

Everything changed in the "diamond world" when diamond stones started being
discovered outside of India. First, there was Borneo and then somewhere along
the line Brazil and China joined the fray. Then the glittering light of the
diamond appeared in South Africa. It happened in the 19th century. The first
known South African diamond was picked up on a beach on the African coast by a
boy who was walking through the sand. This event precipitated a new "diamond
rush" with its roots in that part of the world.

How To Collect Gemstones

By Lee MacRae

Gemology is a term referring to the profession, science, and even art of evaluating and identifying gemstones from natural diamonds to loose gemstones. A number of people taken up this profession as a passionate hobby. They collect and evaluate loose diamonds or loose gemstones. You'll even find some that like to visit different local areas to hunt for raw or rough gemstones. Some hobbyists will learn to cut or tumble the gemstones they find. If you have an interest in this hobby follow along as we discuss the various aspects of gemstone collecting.

Right at the start you need to learn all you can on each of the gemstones out there. This will help you to know what you're buying so you buy the right items. Get the answer to questions like how, where and what to buy.

The chief thing you need to take into account will be stone color. You'll want the stone that is as close as possible to the pure colors of the spectrum. This means blue, green, yellow, orange, red and violet. The prices for very pale or very dark precious and semi precious gemstones are lower in value.

The cut of the stone is extremely important and factors highly into the appraisal of not only diamonds but along with your gemstones. A precision cut gemstone showcases the natural color of the gemstone, diminishes its inclusions, and exhibits good overall symmetry and proportion. One excellent method to determine the precision of its cut is to check how well and consistent it reflects light over its entire surface. But if a gem is cut too shallow, much of the light will refract out of the gem rather than reflecting inside. That will make the gem seem washed out and windowed.

A third consideration is the clarity of the gemstone under consideration. This is talking about the stones purity or the absence of internal inclusions, internal particles or spots within the crystal structure. Needless to say, stones with no flaws are hard to find and make your stones very valuable.

Next comes size and weight. Other than the corals and pearls gemstones are priced by the carat. One carat equals a 0.2 grams. However you should know size and weight and gemstones are not the same. Density or specific gravity can vary in gemstones. Take a diamond that is 1.00 carats in weight and you will find that a similar sized ruby or sapphire is 1.20 carats.

Taking up the hobby of gemstones can become an enjoyable pastime and could be rewarding as well over time. It doesn't have to be very expensive and yet you can build a very exquisite collection. Many people loved to spend weekends to go looking for gemstones. For example in New Hampshire you can rock hunt for Beryl, Rock Crystal and Garnet. Or you can take the time to travel and find opal in Coober Pedy, Andamooka or Mintabie in South Australia, topaz in Beechworth, Victoria or hunt in the garnet fields in Fullarton River in Queensland, Australia.

Tips On natural fancy color diamonds

Good Grade diamonds: This grade will be generally be a bit darker or lacking in
scintillation. The stone above is dark around its girdle. A stone can also be
downgraded by its pattern, or its weight ratio. I.E. if it weighs more than an
average gem of this diameter, it will be downgraded one step.

So You Want To Collect Gemstones

By Lee MacRae

The term gemology refers to the science, art and profession of identifying and evaluating gemstones from loose gemstones to natural diamonds. A number of people taken up this profession as a passionate hobby. They become interested in collecting loose diamonds or loose gemstones. A number of these hobbyists start to visit different areas nearby or in some cases other countries to look for rough gemstones. Some of them will even tumble or finish off the gemstones themselves. If this sounds like a hobby you would like to get involved in follow along as we discuss the different aspects of this hobby.

The first thing you need to do is to visit the library and get some books. You want to learn as much as you possibly can about your new hobby. The more you understand about gemstones the wiser will be your purchases. You need to be as informed as possible.

One of the first things you look at Is gemstone color. Highly prized gemstones exhibit colors similar to the exact spectral color of orange, green, yellow, Violet or blue. Gemstone colors that are somewhat muted or too dark can lower the value quite easily.

The cut of your gemstone is one of the most important traits in evaluating gemstones. The stone has to be cut correctly to reflect light properly. A gemstone with an improper cut can't reflect the light consistently over its surface. Color tone, saturation, and hue will never be consistent.

Gemstone clarity is an important consideration. When we talk of clarity it relates to the amount of inclusions (trace elements or large particles of other elements or minerals) that a gem has. A gemstones that is normally found to be clean is more valuable. To see flaws beyond with the eye can see requires a 10X gemstone clarity magnifier or gem microscope. Most hobbyists will get a jewelers diamond gemstone loupe 10X for viewing their coins, beads, stamps or in our case gemstones.

You will often find that gemstones are often listed according to their size criteria because of being more uniform than carat weight. But two different gemstones may have the same size but differ in carat weights and as a result different pricing structures. This is due to the difference regarding specific gravity or relative density depending upon the materials chemical composition and crystalline structure. Normally a one carat brilliant round diamond of typical proportions will be approximately 6.5 mm in diameter. A ruby that is the same size will weigh approximately 1.55 carats.

Taking up the hobby of gemstones can be very enjoyable and rewarding in the long run. You can take your time and not lay out a lot a cash at the start and yet you can build a very exquisite collection. Many people love to set aside vacation or weekend time to go looking for gemstones. Take the example of the US. In New Hampshire you can rock hunt for Beryl, Rock Crystal and Garnet. Or ou can take a longer vacation and find opal at Lightning Ridge in NSW, Austalia, topaz in Killiecrankie, Tasmania or hunt the peridot fields in Mortlake in Victoria, Australia.

Why collect loose gemstones you ask? Well for one thing gemstones are extremely beautiful. And just like natural diamonds they can become extremely valuable over the years. Next up are weight and size. All gemstones [except for pearls and corals] are priced by the unit, carat. A carat is equal to 0.2 grams. However you should know size and weight and gemstones are not the same. Density or specific gravity can vary in gemstones.
